With 38 years' experience as a driver, Richard is a regular at the festival, having taken part in 41 editions in all. He has had the opportunity to drive in many countries, including Canada, the United States, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, England and France. His achievements include victory in the Canada-US Race and the Quebec Cup. He also holds the diving record with Lysanne Richard (2021). His passion for hot-air ballooning was born when he discovered this discipline at the first edition of the festival, while living near the airport.
