R&B
A music lover to her fingertips and a soul and R&B singer with a bewitching voice, Léonie Gray is a rather exceptional artist, the kind you don't come across very often.
At the age of 18, she left her hometown to settle in Montreal. Scouring the small venues of the metropolis and the province, Léonie Gray quickly made a name for herself with several Montreal artists from different backgrounds, with whom she collaborated. From 2012 to 2015, she was part of Symbiose, a musical in which she was one of the two lead singers.
Nurtured on the jazz of Billie Holiday and the R&B of Etta James, as well as alternative and classical music, Léonie then discovered the world of Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey-Rae and Feist, three artists who greatly influenced her and from whom she still draws inspiration today.
With her soulful vocals and emotionally charged voice, Léonie Gray charms anyone lucky enough to see her on stage.
Aside from concerts and long residencies at L'Escalier and Honey Martin's, she also multiplies recordings, often made with little means but a lot of passion. But it was in 2018, with the release of the EP Growth and the single and video Wednesday, that she came to the attention of Spectra and the production, management and booking label La Maison Mère, with whom she signed a deal. She went on to record and produce Sensitive herself, before producer and composer Tom Lapointe (La Maison Mère) suggested she make a full-length album.
Perfectionist, prolific and versatile, Léonie Gray is one of those rare artists who live and breathe music. For her, this passion is also a therapeutic outlet, a way of freeing herself and growing. Focusing on themes such as mental health, feminism, interpersonal relationships and self-fulfilment, Léonie Gray likes to contrast often more difficult and introspective subjects with lighter, upbeat music.
Equally at home in the classical and folk registers, she nevertheless favors soul, R&B, pop and jazz, favoring vintage sounds and an authentic, spontaneous approach rather than overly polished, synthetic productions. The success of her album Who? released in spring 2022 propelled Léonie Gray to the forefront of the Quebec music scene. The young singer has been touring festivals and concert halls with boundless energy. She continues her tour for the second year running with great success, and wherever she goes, people turn out in droves. She launches a new album this spring. We're sure she'll be able to achieve what she's been longing for: to reach as many people as possible with her music and gracefully inscribe herself in posterity.
She releases her next album on May 17 :)
